Probably an enlarged shotgun or perhaps an outbuilding, even a servants’ quarters of the nearby corner house?  We don’t know, but we do know that it is perhaps the tiniest two story house in America.

Because of the siding, dating the building precisely is more difficult, but if tied to the shotgun movement, it was most likely built during or after the fourth quarter of the 19th century. The period wood door (glazed) appears about that time or slightly later, in the first quarter of the 20th century; however, doors change.  If the building actually proved to be a converted servants quarters or outbuilding, the date of construction could be earlier as the, now single-family, dwelling is located in Faubourg Tremé, a New Orleans neighborhood that was first developed after a plantation was purchased by the City Corporation in 1810 for residential, faubourg development.
