The Fantastical Garden Shed of Robert Gage, Austin, Texas
Located at the rear of a fairly large lot on Rio Grande Street in the “Judge’s Hill” Section of Austin, Texas, a charming old wood-frame dwelling has an even more charming wood-frame shed. The shed was built by Robert Gage, a long time antique dealer and artist from that city. The little shed is a fantastical version of a garden shed to scale with Gage’s house. It sits towards the rear of the lot and was constructed several decades ago from salvage materials that he collected. No doubt Gage has also painted the shed, but we wanted to highlight its charm and as well as its representation of fantasy architecture in scale with more modest wood-frame dwellings.
