Susanna Dickinson and Her House Moved In Austin...

Looking Roughly SE at the Joseph and Susanna Dickinson Hannig House at Austin, Texas after its removal from its original location and its recovery from its formerly defiled state to make way for the HIlton Hotel (rising in the background).

Susanna Dickinson and Her House Moved In Austin...

Looking Roughly SW at the modest, stone-faced Greek Revival house of Susanna Dickinson, which was restored and removed to an adjacent location in Austin, Texas.

While the removal of the house is unfortunate to the precise historical accuracy of the site, it is probable that such development of the Hilton Hotel not only identified, but saved the modest dwelling of Greek Revival stylistic influence from further desecration and/or loss to a less magnified development. We enjoyed the sight of this house even from its less restored state when it was first highlighted after its removal from the block that now hosts the Hilton Hotel. We know that Susanna Dickinson, willing to do anything to survive, would be laughing hugely at the restoral of her quickly denounced urban dwelling…although, no doubt, the hardy lady would be flattered…
