Taken in August of 1926, this photograph depicts raised gardens and lawns along the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland.

 While “raised beds” have their reasons, here and there, they are largely a fashion trend among the those of the “Green” trend in today’s morally correct environmentally concious… Yet there was a time when such “raised beds” were employed to fullfill a need or even create “green” space where it might not other wise grow.  In this photograph, dated 1926, the beach front, broadwalk residences in Ocean City, Maryland feature “…raised gardens and yards…” along the wood frame pier.  One can see that the building are either built right up on the edge of the shoreline or are perhaps “raised” themselves.  While this photograph does not answer that question, it certainly shows that in the early 20th century various locals in Ocean City were dedicated to beauty and making “Green” spaces.  We can’t see, but perhaps “Kaye’
