Kentucky Fried Architecture in Corbin, Kentucky (Knox County)
Harland David Sanders (1890 – 1980), known better as Colonel Sanders, started frying his chicken at age 40 in this quaint Corbin, Kentucky building. While made a Colonel officially in 1935, Sanders did not start franchising his fried chicken house until 1955 when he was 65 years old. After that the “chain” flourished and eventually Sanders sold the company in 1964 for $2 million to a group of Kentucky business men.
So, long story short, all of that happened and then finally we arrived at Knox County very recently to find evidence within the historic built environment of Colonel Sander’s fry house in Corbin, Kentucky. We arrived to find original door knobs, and even some historic artifacts. We delighted for a moment.
