IF YOU THINK GEORGIA AVENUE (NW) IS UGLY NOW, JUST WAIT TIL THEY GET DONE IMPROVING IT…

So we’ve just heard that the District of Columbia HORROR Society is in charge of all new construction on Georgia Avenue, NW.  Not only have they been constructing architectural wonderments there for the last thirty or more years, but we think they’re in the midst of several current projects, including the construction of an embassy to ensure the presence of true HORROR in all capital cities not only nationally, but on an international level.   But have no fear, the uglier it is, the more sustainable it will be…

Not to worry, with the speed of new building between Florida Avenue, NW and Missouri Avenue/Military Road, NW, the lower part of Georgia Avenue will soon be rid of its bohemian quality and free to explore the character defining details of new, low budget, but sustainable construction.  We have examined some of the new buildings thoroughly to find details indicative of the new century.  Hand blown concrete and imported factory frozen plastic were among the integral features that make the buildings sustainable.  We are so proud as we launch ourselves into the second decade of the still newish century!

Long gone are those miserable old fashioned birds and bees of lower Georgia Avenue, as we now have a new bird–the derrick.  They can’t throw up one faux muntin before they’re are working on another.  President Obama even promotes cash back for replacing ugly old wood windows with beautiful new plastic ones!  Again, sustainability is key as we invest in our built environment.  Whats a row of brick Colonial Revival dwellings when you can have a new building of today’s superior standards?  These features ring true in all of the great wonders constructed in the 1980s and 1990s that have aged so well; however, these buildings, often making use of better materials than are prevalent even today, have aged soo well–everyone is dying to get into these crapsman era edifices.

But the best part is that “Good Things Are Happening in Georgia Avenue” or so the saying goes.  As we raze brick to make way for more concrete, we are hoping that the shiny plastic will endure for a lifetime of at least ten years of middle class bliss.  We hope we can rub one out on Georgia Avenue as we erase the rude Colonial Revival heritage of our extant built environment.

Have no fear, wonderful new buildings are here and always remember “Good Things Are Happening in Georgia Avenue!”
