A Row House With The Right Kind Of Awnings. Probably Pennsylvania.
A youngish couple, proud of their arrival to the solidly middle class, pose with their self-propelled conveyance (a bi-cycle) before their brick and stone masonry dwelling-a fanciful row house, no doubt two or three stories tall. While images of people and their houses are common enough, this image includes an unusual amount of integral features: note–the stripped, cloth & collapsible awnings (with pulls); the interior shutters at one of the windows, as well as the shades–also at the doorway with fringe; the iron grates at the basement windows; the double doors, both interior and exterior, making a vestibule, with etched glass being displayed by an open outer door; the stone pavers making the side walk and the granite culvert, the marble steps–a bit of grandeur; the street car tracks within the block-paved street; and, best of all, the urban landscape–the tree and its fabulous three-sided box.
